PIGEON HOLE STATION - APRIL 2021
Our wet season is coming to an end with the weather starting to cool down. Since January we have had 387mm of good soaking rain, this will carry us through nicely after a good start at the back end of last year with 335mm from September to December. Most of this has been from storms, however it has been very widespread across the property. Warm weather between these storms has helped the grass along nicely.
The Vic River has been up quite a few times due to good rainfall upstream, in turn cutting us off. Its now been down for a few days and the road is finally becoming more accessible.
All paddocks are looking in good condition with good ground coverage, and plenty of pasture for the cattle. Sale cattle down the southern end are growing out well with good weight gain. Cows and weaners in breeder paddocks have quite a spread on them, utilising the paddock well, with all classes in good condition. We look forward to commencing mustering these soon.
The majority of our staff have now arrived and have been busy running fences and bores in preparation for the mustering season. All staff who are on station have also completed their First Aid Course, and Head Stockman, Ty, also attended the 2IC Conference in Katherine, which he thoroughly enjoyed and gained a lot from.
Station Manager, Ryan, and Ty have also carried out some on-station training with the staff, which included horse riding and shoeing before the mustering season begins. Horses have also been brought in and are looking shiny and fat.
Our first muster of the season kicked off over the Easter weekend, with everyone keen to get into it. All in all, things are looking good for the 2021 season. ... See MoreSee Less

BIRRINDUDU STATION - MARCH 2021
So far we are enjoying a fabulous wet season at Birrindudu with our rainfall total at 610mm since the first rain in November. The Sturt has had multiple flows throughout the 2020/2021 wet season.
We have been lucky to receive some nice warm weather in-between rains which has allowed our pastures to respond nicely. At present the Sturt is up to the back fence at the Homestead and is in full flow and spreading out across the flood plain country.
All of our staff have now arrived and everyone is settling in well. Mid way through March our Head Stockman, Alex, spent 3 days in Katherine at the Heytesbury 2IC's Conference getting ready for the year ahead.
Throughout the last month everyone has been busy with repairs and maintenance, preparing for the mustering season ahead. Fencing was underway... but the rain has pulled us up, however, we are not complaining.
All classes of cattle at Birrindudu look to be in great condition with plenty of green feed about. Cattle have spread right out utilising some country they would not use throughout the mid parts of the year which is great to see.
We have been fortunate enough to be able to bring horses back to Birrindudu this year for the first time in 11 years, with our plant set to arrive in the coming weeks. We are excited to get them here and are looking forward to mustering. ... See MoreSee Less
